Excerpt: In 2001, the estimated value1 of nonfuel mineral production for Illinois was $911 million, based upon preliminary U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data. This was a marginal decrease from that of 20002 and followed a 1.6% increase from 1999 to 2000. For the third consecutive year, Illinois was 17th in rank among the 50 States in total nonfuel mineral production value, of which the State accounted for more than 2% of the U.S. total.
