Excerpt: La expansi›n de los bosques naturales, principalmente en ÿreas que anteriormente se encontraban cultivadas, se llev› a cabo a un ritmo de 3.6 millones de hectÿreas anuales en todo el mundo, incluyendo 1 mill›n de hectÿreas anuales en los tr›picos. En el ÿmbito mundial, los bosques naturales y las plantaciones forestales juntas, se expandieron a un ritmo de 5.2 millones de hectÿreas anuales. El cambio neto en el ÿrea forestal fue de -14.6 +5.2 = -9.4 millones de hectÿreas anuales (Tabla 49-1). La reducci›n neta en el ÿrea de bosque fue del 2.4 por ciento para el decenio de 1990 en su totalidad.
